Tanzania: Prison Officer Being Probed Over Inmates' Torture

THE Tanzania Prisons Service has resolved to take disciplinary measures against its officer, Inspector Constantino Tairo, for his alleged misbehaviour of torturing inmates at Ukonga Prison in Dar es Salaam.

Commissioner for Legal and Prisons Affairs, Dr Juma Malewa, told the 'Daily News' in Dar es Salaam over the weekend that Inspector Tairo was suspected of having such unbecoming habit and the Prisons Service would not entertain it.
