Sierra Leone: Chinese Ambassador's Wife Attends Policy Dialogue Meeting on Sexuality and Reproductive Health Education in Sierra Leone

Mao Xuehong, Wife of the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, attended the Policy Dialogue Meeting on Sexuality and Reproductive Health (SRH) Education in Sierra Leone in April 15, 2014, as a special guest of Her Excellency Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma, First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone. Representatives from Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender, and Children's Affairs, Ministry of Education, US Embassy, Nigeria High Commission, United Nations Population Fund, and other stakeholders attended the meeting.

The participants of the meeting had an in-depth discussion on how to improve SRH education in Sierra Leone. In her statement, Madame Mao Xuehong elaborated on the measures adopted by China in SRH education and achievements made in relevant areas. She emphasized that, according to the principle of "Care, Understand, Respect and Support", the Chinese government advocates paying great attention to SRH issues in the whole Chinese society, strengthens SRH education in schools, and creates favorable environment for the growth of young people. She stated that China would like to explore various ways to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Sierra Leone in promoting SRH education.
